Mitä tapahtui

On 4 November, Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced the completion of the pre-trial investigation in the Midas case. The investigation focused on an alleged criminal organization operating in the energy sector, with current and former senior officials, business figures and other persons allegedly participating. Participants allegedly demanded illegitimate benefits equal to 10%–15% of contracts with Energoatom and enterprises overseen by the Ministry of Energy. They also allegedly blocked payments or removed suppliers’ status when counterparties refused to pay.

The organization created a separate office in central Kyiv to legitimize illicit funds. Between 2020 and 2025, more than $111 million and nearly €12 million reportedly passed through it. Investigators said the money was laundered using cryptocurrency, securities, a foreign investment fund, a network of non-resident companies and transfers to individuals. The agencies also began measures to seize the organization’s assets in Ukraine and abroad, and said the search and seizure efforts would continue.
